When you want something, you build toward it quietly. No announcements, no requests for help, just a slow and methodical accumulation of effort that other people only notice once you've already arrived. Going after what you want feels most natural when it looks like discipline from the outside and costs you something on the inside. You don't chase. You construct.

What gets complicated is that the wanting itself stays hidden, even from you. You can be years into pursuing something before you'll admit how much it matters. The loneliness inside it is too.

The drive to earn rather than desire runs deep. Somewhere underneath the self-sufficiency is a conviction that wanting things too openly, too visibly, too loudly, is a form of weakness. So ambition gets laundered into responsibility. You're not hungry, you're just doing what needs to be done. That reframe keeps you moving, but it also keeps you from knowing what you actually want, separate from what you can justify.
