You need to be seen for your effort, not just your output

You put real care into the work itself. The way you set things up, the thought behind the details, the extra effort no one asked for but that makes everything better. When someone notices that, not just the result but the care, something in you relaxes in a way it almost never gets to. That noticing feels like the whole point. And when it doesn't come, you keep working just as hard, maybe harder, as if quality alone will eventually make someone look up and see you.

Here is where it gets complicated. Wanting to be appreciated for how you do things, not just what you produce, can start to look like needing an audience. Sometimes you wonder if that's true.
